ISCCM Scholarship for Mid-Career Research Training

Objective: to provide an opportunity for mid-career ISCCM members to acquire training and skills in research methods/epidemiology/clinical trials.

Number of scholarships per year: 2 per year (1 National; 1 International; if no applicants for international scholarship, then 2 National scholarships can be considered

Eligibility criteria:

  • - Should have been an ISCCM member for at least 2 years
  • - Should be under the age of 45 as on 30th April of the year of application
  • - Proven track record of leading and publishing high-quality critical care research
  • - Must provide a letter of intent outlining why he or she must be chosen along with a 5-10 year research plan in a discrete area of focus (e.g. antimicrobial resistance, epidemiology of a specific tropical infection, diaphragm dysfunction in ARDS etc.)
  • - Educational programs that can be considered: MSc Public Health, MSc Epidemiology, MSc clinical trials, Ph.D. in any of the above disciplines
  • - The candidate is responsible for securing admission in an International or national school of repute for such programs (list of schools will be vetted by the Research committee (RC) ISCCM).
  • - Selected candidates would need to give 6 monthly updates on progress of their education.

Selection process:The selection will be made by the Research Committee and forwarded to the Executive Committee (EC) for final approval. If there are any close relatives of RC members who are applying for this scholarship, or faculty of students who are part of the RC, then these RC members should abstain from the selection process or voting.

Timeline:

  • Applications open: March every year
  • Deadline for submission: April 30th
  • Meeting and decision by panel: Before June 30th

Suggested amount of funding:

  • Up to a maximum of 5 lakhs for the entire course for national programs
  • 10 lakhs for international courses

Schedule of payment: The grant would be disbursed in instalments as follows:-

After approvals and signing of the MoU                            50% of the approved amount

Interim report (at least 50% recruitment completed)         Further 25%

On completion of the study and final report                       Remaining 25%

Commitment after completion of course:: After completion of the scholarship tenure, the candidate must conduct a study related to critical care medicine in the next year and preferably complete and publish in IJCCM (within 18 months of completion of tenure)

Disbursal of Scholarship grant: Once the scholarship is sanctioned an MOU will be signed between ISCCM and the faculty.
